API License Agreement

License Grant

Subject to this Agreement, The Disc Database grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access the API and use its data in your applications and services.

Access

The API is currently in early access and free to use. There are no paid tiers. Access works like this:

• API tokens are issued personally on request — there is no self-serve signup
• Tokens are scoped to the resources they can read and have an expiry date
• Requests are rate limited to 60 per minute and 1,000 per hour per token
• The API is read-only; all data changes go through the contributor review workflow

As the platform matures, access terms may change. If paid plans or different limits are ever introduced, existing users will be notified in advance and this agreement will be updated.

Permitted Uses

You may use the API and its data to:

• Build applications, tools, and services for the disc golf community
• Create educational content and research materials
• Integrate disc data into existing platforms and services

Restrictions

You may not:

• Circumvent rate limits or token scoping
• Resell or redistribute bulk raw data as a competing database or data product
• Misrepresent the data's source or your affiliation with The Disc Database
• Use the API for spam, illegal, or harmful activities
• Share API tokens or access credentials

Attribution

If your application is built on this data, credit it. Acceptable attribution includes:

• "Data from The Disc Database" with a link to this site
• A mention in your application's footer, about section, or documentation

Data Accuracy

The database combines official PDGA records with community-contributed data, and we work to keep it accurate — but:

• Data is provided "as is" without warranties of accuracy or completeness
• Disc specifications may change as manufacturers and the PDGA update records
• Coverage varies — for example, flight numbers exist for a growing subset of discs

Service Availability

The API is run on a best-effort basis during early access. There is no uptime guarantee or service-level agreement. We'll communicate breaking API changes to token holders before they happen whenever possible.

Intellectual Property

The Disc Database retains rights to the API's structure and implementation, the database's organization, and its trademarks and brand assets. Factual data about discs (specifications, flight numbers, approval dates) is not claimed as proprietary.

Termination

We may revoke a token for violations of this agreement or abuse of the service. You may stop using the API at any time; on request we'll delete your token and associated account data.
